BLESSING OF THE FLEET

Local clergy will bless the vessels in this centuries old tradition held in ports worldwide. The annual blessing of boats and aircraft, servicing the Bass Islands, will be held at 11am off Fox’s Dock. Fox’s Dock is adjacent to the Jet Express Dock, downtown Put-in-Bay. The Jet Express will participate in this maritime tradition alongside fellow commercial vessels.

The Blessing of the Fleet is a centuries-old tradition originating in southern European, predominantly Catholic, fishing communities. A blessing from the local priest was meant to ensure a safe and bountiful season.
